Temporary Skill Shortage Visa particular work visa was introduced on March 18, 2018. It replaced the Temporary Work visa subclass 457 (abolished by DHA). This visa, referred to as the TSS visa (482 Visa), enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in genuinely skilled workers where they cannot source an appropriately skilled Australian. It facilitates targeted use of overseas workers to address temporary skill shortages while ensuring that Australian workers get priority.
If you have the skills to fill a job position with an Australian employer who is looking to recruit you then you may be eligible for the TSS visa. TSS visa holders can work in Australia in their nominated occupation for their approved sponsor under one of three streams:
Under the Short-Term Stream, the TSS visa will be approved for two (2) years. It will be approved for a maximum of up to four (4) years in the Medium-Term Stream and Labour Agreement Stream.
Please note that there is no age requirement for this visa. So anyone with higher skills can apply for a Temporary Skill Shortage Visa in Australia i.e Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Reservoir.
You’ll be able to apply (and get) this visa only if:
Employers who sponsor foreign nationals to work in Australia on the TSS visa are required to:
Check if your occupation is on the Consolidated Skilled Occupation Lists.
Ensure you meet all the eligibility requirements.
Find an employer who is willing to sponsor you. Your employer should be willing to complete the employer sponsorship application online through the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
Get an employer nomination. Once you find an employer, you will need to have them nominate you for the TSS visa.
Apply for the TSS Visa Once the employer nomination application is submitted, you can apply for the 457 visa online through the DHA.
Wait for a decision. It can take several months for the DHA to make a decision on your visa application.
Receive your visa and start working!Once your application is approved, you will receive your visa and can start work in Australia.
Once your TSS is due to expire, you may re-apply for one further two-year TSS visa (in case of occupations on the STSOL).
On the other hand, for those with occupations on the MLTSSL, the visa holder can renew the TSS visa for a further 4 years, or transition to permanent residency.
Spouses/Partners and children can be included in a TSS visa application as dependent family members. These family members have unrestricted work and study rights or transition to permanent residency.
